What it does: A variable speed drive controls how fast an electric motor runs. Instead of a motor only having one speed (full on), this unit lets you dial the speed up or down, start and stop smoothly, and even run in reverse. Commonly used on pumps, conveyors, fans, compressors, and machine tool spindles — anywhere you need adjustable speed rather than fixed on/off.
